about 8 years ago – Sat, Feb 13, 2016 at 09:19:00 AM

Hi, Rose here. ^_^

Passing $145,000, you're enabling us to add three more stories to the Pugmire Fiction Anthology. We will send the PDF/ebook to all backers who pledge for a reward tier that include a Pugmire PDF. Included in these three stories will be a story by friend of Pugmire and internationally noted writer Aaron Rosenberg.

Up next, at $170,000, Eddy will work with Dave Grossman (Secret of Monkey Island, The Wolf Among Us) and their colleagues at Earplay to make several episodes of an interactive Pugmire audio drama that you can play on your mobile device! All backers who pledge for a reward tier that includes a Pugmire PDF will get ad-free access to this volume at release.

Also, Tercio2002 has done an in-depth video review of the Pugmire Early Access Kit.

Thank you for your support!

Stretch Goals and You, Perfect Together!
over 8 years ago – Wed, Feb 10, 2016 at 03:19:13 PM

Hello, RichT here:

First, I'd like to thank everybody who has supported Pugmire so far, and whose pledges have catapulted this Kickstarter into the enviable position of being able to offer Stretch Goal after Stretch Goal.

But I realize that for a lot of you, the concept behind Stretch Goals is a new one, so allow me to explain the basic idea, and how we at Onyx Path use that idea for Pugmire.

If you are a veteran of a thousand Kickstarter Stretch Goal wars, then please feel free to scroll down to the New Stretch Goal Poll below.

What Are Stretch Goals Anyway?

Basically, Stretch Goals are additionally rewards that backers can unlock by passing through some sort of goal; usually based on the pledge total growing larger. The idea being that once the funding goal has been met then there is "extra" money from pledges that can go towards rewards.

I say "extra" with the " " because for our kickstarter here we actually don't have as much additional pledge funding to devote to a Stretch Goal reward as it looks. The vast majority of our pledge amount growth is backers who pledge for a reward containing physical products: the book, or dice, or the Screen. And those physical rewards still all have manufacturing costs that have to come out of that amount.

Nonetheless, we looooove offering Stretch Goals with the amounts left over, because we use them as a chance to do three fun kinds of things:

1) Add something to the main book that we didn't have the budget for before. Like adding in the Intro Adventure, or 20% more art. These are the Stretch Goal rewards that are the easiest to appreciate for everybody.

2) Extra projects backers get for free or at a discount just for backing. These can be more gaming projects that directly are used while playing Pugmire, like the cards, or projects that are part of enjoying the world of Pugmire even when not playing the game, like the fiction anthology.

Both kinds of projects are the sorts of things that we might want to do, but can't afford to devote the time or money to. Not every backer is going to be into every one of these sorts of Stretch Goal rewards, but they are vital in extending the appeal of Pugmire - which means we'll be able to do more in the future!

3) Stretch Goals that don't offer direct rewards to the backers. We don't do a lot of these, but when we do it is either because we think they are an important opportunity that we wouldn't have a chance at making happen without this KS, like working with Earplay on the interactive audio drama (which they were nice enough to offer the drama to backers as a special incentive), or because it is something silly. Because sometimes we all need a laugh and a breather in the pursuit of more Stretch Goal rewards.

It's our goal to keep these kinds of Stretch Goals balanced, and fun, and at the same time not to bite off more than we can chew, fellow puppies. Ultimately, the Stretch Goals aren't the main thing we're doing here, and we have to keep ourselves focused on that Pugmire book you're all pledging for and not let the Stretch Goals, which are extras, really, interfere in the creation of the best Pugmire book we can create.

New Stretch Goal Poll

So, we have a huge list of possible Stretch Goals that fit into the categories above, and we could just keep stringing them along as we feel works best.

But we'd rather start giving you amazing backers a chance to decide which Stretch Goals are coming next based on your votes for these three possibilities after the $170,000 Interactive Audio Drama:

1) A "StoryPath Translation Guide" containing all the info for adapting Pugmire to Onyx Path's own StoryPath System rules. We've had a lot of requests for us to adapt Pugmire into different tabletop RPG rules systems, and we thought it made sense to make our first one for our own 10-sided dice pool rules set. (We kind of know it pretty well.) Anybody who has played games using a dice pool like the Storyteller or Storytelling Systems from White Wolf should be comfortable with this one.

2) "Pan's Guide for New Explorers" (Full title: Pan Dachshund's Guide for New Explorers, with Annotations Provided by Various Members of the Royal Society of Pioneers). We've also heard from a lot of backers that Pugmire will be their first tabletop RPG, or that they want Pugmire to be their kids' first tabletop RPG. Either way, we want to help with that by providing an in-character guide that walks new players through learning how to play Pugmire. And we figure that gruff but experienced Pan Dachshund is just the Pioneer to get everyone back safely.

3) "New Treats for MurrayPug" This is exactly what it sounds like. Murray the Pug is the CEO of Pugsteady, and he's hungry. If this Stretch Goal wins in the poll, he'll get extra treats until the end of the Kickstarter. And Eddy says he'll post a video of Murray enjoying his well-earned treats.

You can vote for your choice of which option will be our next Stretch Goal here:

http://theonyxpath.com/pugmire-poll/

Whichever has the most votes as we pass the $145,000 Stretch Goal will be declared the winner by our crack team of pollsters. Any ties will be decided by MurrayPug.

And no, you can't write in to add the Monarchies of Mau Early Access doc to the voting, we know folks are interested and we have plans, so stay with us for more on that later in the KS.

Thanks!

And coming up... Pugmire interactive audio drama!
over 8 years ago – Mon, Feb 08, 2016 at 11:21:09 AM

Hi, Rose here. ^_^  At $170,000 of contributions, Eddy will work with Dave Grossman (Secret of Monkey Island, The Wolf Among Us) and their colleagues at Earplay to make an interactive Pugmire audio drama that you can play on your mobile device!

I'm going to turn you over to Eddy for more. :)

---

Hey, everyone! Eddy here. I wanted to talk more about that interactive audio drama stretch goal. I think it’s incredibly exciting, but it’s a very different stretch goal for a lot of reasons, so I thought I’d go into it in more detail.

Why interactive audio drama?

Remember that little audio skit at the start of the Kickstarter video? What if you could tell Yosha, Pan, and Rex where to go next?

That’s what interactive audio drama is -- an audio game you play with your voice. Using a full cast of actors, along with immersive sound effects, you speak to your mobile device at key moments, directing the flow of the story without even needing to look at the screen. This focus on audio allows for deep immersion in personal story experiences and interactions with the Pugmire world, and I feel the dynamics of a great interactive audio drama aren’t too far from those of a great tabletop game.

If you want to get a taste of interactive audio drama, check out Codename Cygnus, a previous game we put out, and it has a couple of free episodes to start. You can get it for iOS or Android from the website: http://www.codenamecygnus.com/

What is “Earplay”?

In addition to working on my own company (Pugsteady) and my freelance and consulting work for Onyx Path Publishing, I’m also the executive producer of a new company called Earplay. Well, it’s new to you, but I’ve been working with them for a couple of years now to help build this exciting new idea of interactive audio drama. We’ve done some work so far with clients like Disney Interactive, Wooga, and Fox, and we’re hoping that we’ll be able to empower more teams of writers and audio professionals by providing a marketplace and collaborative tools for this new way of storytelling.

In addition, we have Dave Grossman as our CCO (Chief Creative Officer), and he’s just amazing. He’s been instrumental at both LucasArts and Telltale Games, and IGN named him one of the 100 top game creators of all time. He’s going to work with me to make this into something really fun and engaging. I’m excited to see what he can bring to the world of Pugmire

If you have any questions about Earplay, feel free to head over to ear-play.com to read more or contact us!

So will Pugmire belong to this new company?

Not at all -- with every step, Pugmire remains the property of Pugsteady. In the same way that my company is working in conjunction with Onyx Path Publishing to make this tabletop RPG, I’ll also work with Earplay to make the interactive audio drama. From a contract perspective, Pugsteady is licensing it to Earplay, but in reality, it’ll be me, Rich, and Dave all working with other talented people to make more amazing Pugmire products.

I firmly believe that Pugmire is not only a great game, but also an amazing world that people will want to visit time and again. There’s so much I can do with this world, and partnerships with companies like Earplay are just the first step to watching Pugmire grow.
